Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a speaking event organizer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which includes videos and comments on portrayals of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency explores how women are represented in pop culture. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes about women and how they are depicted in pop media. Furthermore she aims to create the awareness of harassment on social media targeted at women and those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian is a graduate in social and political thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is highly sought after and has given talks at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She has been interested in gender issues and feminism at a young age. When she graduated in 2009, in university she started the Feminist Frequency site. Someone who hoped to create a web series that examined the gender representation of video games, she was targeted by an online campaign. But the harassment did not dissuade her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a journalist who is feminist. In recognition of the many accomplishments she's made to feminism, she is awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her efforts as a critique of the media, and she founded Feminist Frequency. The nonprofit explores the portrayals of women in contemporary pop culture.
