Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 20th, 2000) is an American actress and a singer. Her career spans more than 40 years. London was a torch performer famous for her smooth, melodic vocals and languid contralto voice she recorded over thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 and 1969. The album she released as her debut "Cry me a river" that she recorded, was inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition to her musical notice, London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her portrayal of nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's acting career lasted for 35 years and began in 1944 with roles in movies. They included roles as the lead female role in many westerns. London also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958), and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). In the middle of the 1950s, she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional musical career. Her last studio album was released in 1969. Her success continued as the female star role in the role of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) where she co-starred with husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband who produced the show.
